Digital Divide LA — Project Proposal

Summary of the Focus of the Site

Digital Divide LA is a community-driven website designed to make it easier for Los Angeles residents to find free or affordable internet, devices, and digital-skills programs. The site not only collects and organizes existing resources like library hotspot lending and city initiatives such as Delete The Divide, but also allows users to contribute by adding new resources, reporting outages, and leaving reviews.

In Los Angeles alone, more than 278,250 households lack an internet subscription , making this kind of tool critical. Over time, the platform will grow into a living, interactive database that highlights both the areas of strong digital access and the neighborhoods where gaps remain, helping students, families, and organizations connect with the support they need.

Audience

The primary audience is students and families who need reliable technology access. Secondary audiences include community organizations that provide resources and policymakers who want insight into underserved areas.

Underlying Data for the Site

The site will start with a seed list of known resources such as Delete The Divide programs and library hotspot lending. Over time, users can add new resources, report issues, and post reviews, expanding the dataset through crowdsourced participation.
